About Tango Tango First Response Tones (FRT)

Tango Tango First Response Tones (FRT) integrate with your existing radio and tone-based alert paging system, enabling you to receive tone-out notifications on your smartphone when your station is paged out. FRT will play tones and dispatcher call audio over your smartphone and send a notification to the Tango Tango app, with optional alert tones.

FRT Overview

First, provision your agency's tone sequences in the Tango Tango admin portal. This provisioning contains that the details of the sequences (i.e. their frequencies and durations), the name of each tone sequence (which is often the name of the fire station or department), and for each sequence, the users that should be notified when a page is received with that tone sequence. A guide for customer administrators responsible for this provisioning is available here.

App users may also configure, in the app, which tone-outs they wish to enable. A user will be notified when a tone-out is detected on any tone-out group that is enabled for their user account. This notification consists of (a) an incident call, where the channel audio is played back and (b) an app notification message.

Configuring FRT

To configure FRT from the Tango Tango app, navigate to the Settings - First Response Tones page.

Settings

Receive Incident Calls in DND -- To receive FRT alerts even if the app has DND enabled, enable this option.

Pager Alert -- If enabled, an audible alert tone will be played before the incident call audio.

Tones

This section displays a list of available tone-outs for your organization. To enable or disable a tone-out, click on the toggle control for that tone.

Notes

  • If you are currently in a normal PTT call, you will not be pulled out of that call to hear the FRT incident call, but you will receive an in-app notification.
  • If you enable the app's Do Not Disturb setting, all FRT notifications will be suppressed. In cases where you'd like to suppress PTT calls but still received FRT notifications, enable the Receive Incident Calls in DND option, or optionally, mute individual channels you'd like to suppress.
  • A log of your organization's tone-out events is provided in the Tango Tango admin portal.
  • Recordings of past tone-outs are available in the Messages page in the app and the admin portal.
