Tango Tango provides high-quality audio, enabling optimum clarity and legibility for push-to-talk communications. Achieving the desired audio quality sometimes requires the adjustment of various settings. This section explains some of the possible adjustments needed.
Audio Paths
When discussing audio problems or adjustments, it's important to keep in mind the possible audio paths.
App to App
App to app audio refers to situations where both the talker and listeners are using the Tango Tango app. For this audio path, the important settings to consider are:
- Microphone Boost -- When enabled, this setting provides normalization and additional gain for the app talker. This setting is found in the Settings - Call Settings menu.
- Volume Boost -- Allows additional again to be applied for the PTT listener. This setting is found in the Settings - Call Settings menu.
Radio to App
The Radio to App path refers to audio sourced from the Tango Tango radio integration system that is being received by Tango Tango app users. The important settings here are:
- Volume Boost -- App setting. See description above.
- Radio integration settings -- These settings are tuned by the Tango Tango support team at the time of initial service installation. These settings may sometimes require additional adjustment, especially if anything in the radio system changes. Contact Tango Tango support for help with radio integration audio settings.

Audio Output Control
The Tango Tango app provides several controls for controlling where app audio is output. In the app's Setting - Call Settings - Call Audio Routing menus:
- Use Speakerphone -- Enabling this option will route app audio to the device's speaker, which is usually the desired setting since it is much louder than the device earpiece. Disabling this option will route audio to the earpiece.
Note: To use wired earbuds with the device, disable the Use Speakerphone option.
- Use Bluetooth -- Enabling this option will route app audio to a paired Bluetooth audio device. Note that pairing the Bluetooth device is performed separately in the device's OS menus. See also the section on Accessories.
Using Volume Buttons to Control App Volume
Volume buttons on mobile devices can control the volume of multiple audio sources in the device. It's often useful to force them to control only app audio, so that the buttons can be used at any time instead of just when the app is in a call. This section describes how to change this.
iOS
To force the volume buttons on iOS devices to control app volume only, instead of also sometimes controlling ringer volume:
- In the iOS Settings - Sounds menu, adjust the "Ringtone and Alert Volume" slider to the desired level.
- Next, disable the "Change with Buttons" toggle that is right below the Ringtone and Alert Volume slider.
Android
To force the volume buttons on Android to control app volume only, instead of also sometimes controlling ringer volume:
- Access the Android menu: Settings - Sounds and Vibration - Volume
- Next, enable the toggle for "Use Volume keys for media."
